TEHRAN – On Saturday, the heads of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government held a special meeting to discuss ways to counter Western-led sanctions against Iran.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, and Judiciary Chief Sadeq Amoli Larijani emphasized the necessity of cooperation among the three branches in countering sanctions.
The Expediency Council also on Saturday discussed various issues including the plans proposed by the administration to counteract the effects of sanctions.
President Ahmadinejad and a number of ministers briefed the council on the country’s economic situation and their measures and plans to neutralize the effects of the sanctions.
Efforts to counter sanctions come as the European Union’s oil embargo on Iran took effect on July 1 and a new U.S. law that penalizes countries that do business with the Central Bank of Iran by denying their banks access to the United States market came into force on June 28.
